Vikesland Launches Royal Navy

Vikesland has joined the 'Naval Powers'. In an official statement, released from Brandon Royal Compound, the Grand Prince is quoted as saying: "On September third I had the privilege to officially start the Naval division of our Vikeslandic Security forces. This was kicked off with the launch of a small sailing vessel simply known as Betty, a catamaran designed for two/three sailors. The Craft is owned by Admiral Nathan Town, citizen of Vikesland and a good friend of mine.

"He and I took the ship out for the first official naval training run in Lake Winnipegosis ( A very huge inland lake). The run was succesful but slow due to little winds. The second day out was very good as the winds were high that day and we got the ship up to about 50km/h (30mph). There will be more naval training excercises in the future."

HH Suzanne Ball, Grand Duckess Mother of Elsanore Celebrates 54 Birthday

Her Highness Helene Suzanne Ball, the Grand Duke's mother, celebrated her 54th birthday on Friday, the 31st of August.

The occasion was commemorated by His Serene Majesty and the Royal Mother with dinner at a lovely restaurant in Mobile.

Her Highness, the Grand Duchess Mother upon returning home, went to bed at 9:30pm, while His Serene Majesty, the Grand Duke, rushed back to Spring Hill College to prepare several reports for the coming week's classes.

Cricket: India defeat England in fifth one-day international

India have beaten England by 38 runs (Duckworth-Lewis method) in the fifth One-Day International of the series at Headingley, Leeds, England.

Indian opening batsmen Sourav Ganguly and Sachin Tendulkar started quickly, recording an opening partnership of 116 runs before Tendulkar was caught behind for 71 runs and Ganguly was dismissed for 59. Gautam Gambhir and Yuvraj Singh shared a 94 run partnership, with Yuvraj Singh reaching 72 and Gambhir scoring 51 runs. After 47 overs of the Indian innings, rain stopped play with India at 286-4. Play soon resumed however, and after Mahendra Singh Dhoni was caught behind for 24 and Rahul Dravid run out on 24 runs, India completed their fifty overs with a score of 324-6.

Chasing a substantial target of 325 runs, England suffered an early blow when Alastair Cook was caught behind off Ajit Agarkar's bowling. Ian Bell and Matt Prior shared a 90 run partnership before Prior was stumped by Mahendra Singh Dhoni for 46 runs. Soon afterwards Kevin Pietersen was caught behind for a duck while Ian Bell was caught behind for 44 runs. Rain once again interrupted the match and when play resumed England faced a revised Duckworth-Lewis target of 311 runs off 45 overs. England captain Paul Collingwood hit 91 not out, but the rain returned after 39 overs and the match finished with England still 38 runs behind the new Duckworth-Lewis target of 281 runs from 39 overs.

England lead the seven match series 3-2. The sixth match will be played at The Oval, London on 5 September.

Marquess of Mobile Celebrates Summerset by baby-setting!

The Marquess of Mobile, celebrated Summerset in the home of Mib and Roxann Buckminister (yes, that is their real names!). Unlike usual celebrations of the holiday, Mr. and Mrs. Buckministers themselves were not at home.

Mrs Buckminister's daughter, Melissa was celebrating a 'Labour Day' of her own, as she attempted to deliver her first son. However as the day wore on, and the child did not come forth, concerned physicians began to discuss the possibility of the need for a c-section delivery. Due to the additional stress associated with such a delivery the Buckministers determined that their presence at the hospital was not an 'option' but a necessity.

With the late notice, and the holiday week-end, normal childcare arraingments were not available for 1-year old Jude (the Buckminister's youngest child). They contacted the Marquess' office of family support for assistance. The Marquess' office then contacted the closest Baronial Office in an attempt to find suitable childcare on short notice. The nearest office (the Marquess' own Barony of Fayette) was unable to find a matron willing to make the drive into Spanish East Florida over a US Holiday known for its drunken drivers. After discussion with the Buckministers the Marquess himself took the job.

The Marquess was quoted as saying "This is part of what I am, and of what I do. I some times see myself as a minister - and ministry to families, helping them to help themselves, and to grow closer as a unit - is the core ministry of any society. "
