Cricket: West Indies Regain Wisden Trophy

The British West Indies cricket team held on to a draw in the fifth and final test of the five match test series at Queen's Park Oval, Port-of-Spain, Trinidad against the England cricket team to win the five test series 1-0 and regain the Wisden trophy after a gap of nine years. This is their first major test series victory in five years.

To win the match, West Indies were set a target of 240 runs in 66 overs or to bat two sessions for a draw. West Indies pair of Fidel Edwards and Denesh Ramdhin thwarted the English attack to finish on 114-8 and drawing the match.Earlier in the day Kevin Pietersen scored 102 runs to enable England to declare at 237/6 in their second innings.

England had drawn the previous two tests in Barbados and Antigua and Barbuda and had lost the first test in Jamaica by an innings and 23 runs. The second test in Antigua was abandoned. Matt Prior was declared Player of the match and Ramnaresh Sarwan was declared the player of the series.

England have beaten India by seven wickets in the seventh and final One-Day International of the series at Lord's, London, England. England win the series 4-3.

India, having won the toss, struggled with the bat. Sourav Ganguly was caught at second slip for 15 runs, and Gautam Gambhir was dismissed for 12 runs. Captain Rahul Dravid was caught behind for a duck, while Sachin Tendulkar was given out caught behind by umpire Aleem Dar for 30 runs. Television replays showed that the decision may not have been right, but India were reduced to 59-4. Dimitri Mascarenhas was the best performing England bowler, dismissing Robin Uthappa (22), Yuvraj Singh (28) and Piyush Chalwa (0), finishing with figures of 3-23. Andrew Flintoff, back in the England side after passing a medical test on his ankle, took 3-45. Mahendra Singh Dhoni scored fifty for India, but they were bowled out for just 187 runs.

England's opening batsmen Luke Wright and Matt Prior were both dismissed for ducks by R P Singh in the second over. Despite the early setback England had few problems in reaching the target. Ian Bell was run out for 36, while Kevin Pietersen and Paul Collingwood took England to victory, scoring 71 not out and 64 not out respectively. R P Singh was the pick of the Indian bowlers, taking 2-40.

India have beaten England by two wickets in the sixth One-Day International of the series at The Oval, London, England.

England suffered early setbacks when Alastair Cook was caught behind for a duck in the first over, followed by Matt Prior falling lbw to Ajit Agarkar soon afterwards. Ian Bell and Kevin Pietersen shared a partnership of 59 runs before Bell was bowled by Piyush Chawla just short of 50 runs. Paul Collingwood made just one run before being run out to leave England on 83-4. Kevin Pietersen and ODI debutant Luke Wright both recorded fifties, with Wright sharing 106 runs with Owais Shah. Shah reached 107 not out, and Dimitri Mascarenhas finished England's innings by hitting five sixes off the last five balls.

Opening batsmen Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly started well for India, putting on 150 runs before Ganguly was dismissed in the 23rd over for 53. Sachin Tendulkar reached 94 before being caught off the bowling of Monty Panesar to leave India on 156-2 in the 26th over. Gautam Gambhir and Yuvraj Singh shared a partnership of 53 runs, with Gambhir scoring 47 runs. Rahul Dravid was dismissed for just four, while Mahendra Singh Dhoni scored 35 before being bowled by Stuart Broad. In a tense finish, Robin Uthappa took India to the 317 run target with two balls remaining.

The seven match series is now tied at 3-3. The final match will be played at Lord's, London on 8 September.

India have beaten England by 38 runs (Duckworth-Lewis method) in the fifth One-Day International of the series at Headingley, Leeds, England.

Indian opening batsmen Sourav Ganguly and Sachin Tendulkar started quickly, recording an opening partnership of 116 runs before Tendulkar was caught behind for 71 runs and Ganguly was dismissed for 59. Gautam Gambhir and Yuvraj Singh shared a 94 run partnership, with Yuvraj Singh reaching 72 and Gambhir scoring 51 runs. After 47 overs of the Indian innings, rain stopped play with India at 286-4. Play soon resumed however, and after Mahendra Singh Dhoni was caught behind for 24 and Rahul Dravid run out on 24 runs, India completed their fifty overs with a score of 324-6.

Chasing a substantial target of 325 runs, England suffered an early blow when Alastair Cook was caught behind off Ajit Agarkar's bowling. Ian Bell and Matt Prior shared a 90 run partnership before Prior was stumped by Mahendra Singh Dhoni for 46 runs. Soon afterwards Kevin Pietersen was caught behind for a duck while Ian Bell was caught behind for 44 runs. Rain once again interrupted the match and when play resumed England faced a revised Duckworth-Lewis target of 311 runs off 45 overs. England captain Paul Collingwood hit 91 not out, but the rain returned after 39 overs and the match finished with England still 38 runs behind the new Duckworth-Lewis target of 281 runs from 39 overs.

England lead the seven match series 3-2. The sixth match will be played at The Oval, London on 5 September.

Scotland lose to India in one-day international cricket match

India have beaten Scotland by seven wickets in a One-Day International at Titwood, Glasgow, Scotland.

Scotland were reduced to 49-4 after losing the opening batsmen cheaply followed by the loss of Watson and Haq in quick succession. However a rain delay shortened the Scotland innings to 46 overs. Scottish batsmen Gavin Hamilton and Neil McCallum shared a partnership of 82 runs and Craig Wright hit 37 off 34 balls to help Scotland to 203-9 after 46 overs.

India comfortably reached the revised Duckworth-Lewis target of 209 runs from 46 overs despite some good initial fielding from Scotland and the loss of three wickets. Robin Uthappa scored a half century while Gautam Gambhir scored 85 runs. India won the match by seven wickets with 37 balls to spare.

India will play a seven-match tour of England later this month, having already won the Test series earlier this week.

An associate member of the ICC, Scotland missed a chance to play against a full member country in July when a match against Pakistan was abandoned due to rain.

Cricket: India defeat England in second Test

India have beaten England by seven wickets in the second Test cricket match of the Indian tour of England at Trent Bridge, Nottingham, England.

Despite the loss of three wickets on the final day, the Indian batsmen comfortably reached the 73 run target set by England.

India lead the three-match series 1-0 after the first Test ended in a draw, and England must win the final Test at The Oval to avoid their first home Test series defeat since 2001.

The start of play was delayed on the first day as the outfield was wet following heavy rain. Before play finally got underway after lunch on Friday, India won the toss and captain Rahul Dravid chose to field first.

Zaheer Khan made two breakthroughs early in the England innings to dismiss Andrew Strauss and captain Michael Vaughan. R P Singh then trapped Kevin Pietersen lbw to reduce England to 47-3. Although Paul Collingwood and Alastair Cook shared a partnership of 54, India's bowlers found some swing and reduced England to 169-7 at the close of day one.

On the second day England were soon bowled out for just 198, with Zaheer Khan leading the bowling attack with 4-59. In response, the England bowlers did little to trouble the Indian batsmen, and Dinesh Karthik and Wasim Jaffer soon reached half centuries. The breakthrough came just before Tea when Jaffer was caught off Tremlett's bowling, while Karthik followed just after the interval. India soon surpassed England's first innings total, and Sachin Tendulkar scored a fifty and his 11,000th run in Test cricket. A partnership of 97 was brought to an end when Rahul Dravid was caught by Ian Bell, and bad weather forced the close of play soon afterwards with India on 254-3.

England struggled in the field on day three as India's lead passed 100. Sourav Ganguly scored fifty and shared a partnership of 96 with Sachin Tendulkar. After lunch, Tendulkar was dismissed by a controversial lbw decision, nine runs short of his century. After V. V. S. Laxman was dismissed for 54, India's tail-enders did not add much to their total and they were eventually bowled out for 481, leading England by 283 runs. Monty Panesar took 4-101 and Chris Tremlett took 3-80. Play ended for the day sixteen overs into England's second innings, with England still 240 runs behind on 43-0.

Michael Vaughan scored 124 runs on day four and shared a 112 run stand with Paul Collingwood (63), and Andrew Strauss scored 55. However England's last seven wickets fell for just 68 runs with Zaheer Khan taking 5-75. England were all out for 355, leaving India to chase a target of just 73 in their second innings. Three overs of India's second innings were played before the close of play on day four, with India on 10-0, needing just 63 runs for victory.

Indian bowler Sreesanth was fined half of his match fee for colliding with England batsman Michael Vaughan during the fourth day's play, breaking the ICC Code of Conduct which prohibits "Inappropriate and deliberate physical contact between players during play". The match was also marred by incidents of sledging.

On the final day India were hardly troubled in reaching their target although Chris Tremlett took three wickets, including that of Sachin Tendulkar for just one run.
