Cricket: England beat India in third one-day internationa

-- From Wikinews

August 27, 2007

England have beaten India by 42 runs in the third One-Day International of the series at Edgbaston, Birmingham, England.

India won the toss and captain Rahul Dravid chose to send England in to bat first. England posted a score of 281-8 after fifty overs. After a bright start from opening batsmen Alastair Cook and Matt Prior, who shared a partnership of 76 runs, England were restricted by the Indian bowlers and Kevin Pietersen was stumped by wicket-keeper Mahendra Singh Dhoni for just nine runs. Paul Collingwood scored 44 runs and Ian Bell finished on 79, while R P Singh was the best performing Indian bowler with 3-55.

In response, India faltered early on when Sachin Tendulkar was dismissed for just eight runs followed by Dinesh Karthik an over later for a duck. However Rahul Dravid and Sourav Ganguly shared a 104 run partnership, with both batsmen reaching their fifty, which was ended when Dravid was bowled by Chris Tremlett for 56. In his next over, Tremlett also removed Sourav Ganguly when he was caught behind for 72. India's run chase suffered further blows when Mahendra Singh Dhoni was dismissed for 13 and Yuvraj Singh run out for 45. India were bowled out for 239 runs, 43 runs short of the target. James Anderson was the pick of the England bowlers, taking 3-32.

England lead the seven match series 2-1. The fourth match will be played at Old Trafford, Manchester on August 30.

Cricket: India beat England in second one-day international

- From Wikinews

August 24, 2007

India have beaten England by nine runs in the second One-Day International of the series at the County Ground, Bristol, England.

India, having won the toss and elected to bat first, raced to 113 runs after the first twenty overs. Sourav Ganguly was caught off the bowling of Andrew Flintoff, who finished the innings as the top performing England bowler, taking 5-56. Sachin Tendulkar fell just short of a century, being caught behind on 99 runs. Tendulkar was surprised at the decision, and television replays were inconclusive as to whether the ball had hit his glove or not. Yuvraj Singh and Rahul Dravid added 63 runs before Singh was dismissed for 49. Dravid finished on 92 not out, helping India to an imposing total of 329-7 after fifty overs.

In reply England started quickly, recording 75 runs off the first ten overs. However Munaf Patel took two wickets in two balls to dismiss both the England opening batsmen. The England wickets fell regularly after that, with Kevin Pietersen and Paul Collingwood bowled by Piyush Chalwa for 25 and 27 runs respectively. Andrew Flintoff was dismissed for just nine runs, and despite 64 runs from Ian Bell, England needed 90 runs from the last eight overs with just three wickets remaining. Dimitri Mascarenhas hit 52 runs, including five sixes, and Stuart Broad hit 20 runs off the final over, but it came too late and England fell ten runs short of the 330 run target.

The seven-match series stands at 1-1 after two matches. The third match will be played at Edgbaston, Birmingham, on August 27.

Toss: India won, and chose to bat first.

Imperium NOT withdrawing from UNAM - at least not yet

The Provisional Post ran a head-line earlier today (Saturday) stating: "Imperium Withdraws from UNAM". The headline, taken from an Imperium Public Affairs Post was 'hasty'.

The Imperium of DeWaCo Estates has NOT withdrawn from UNAM. The careful reader of the article as provided to the Post by the Imperium Public Affairs office would have noticed that the article stated that the measures were under consideration, not a 'forgone fact'.

Unfortunately, the editorial staff of the Post republished the story as it appeared in the Open Micronational Forum News section, without modification.

The Post has learned that After several hours of consultation, between all parties of interest
and concern, the Lord Imperator has once again reaffirmed His continued support, for the Imperium's State Membership in the Union of North American Micronations / UNAM.

Acording to the Lord Imperator, "Mistakes were made on all sides, and no evidence was found, that would lead to believe that there was ever any intentional breach of the internal security of the organization's forum; as well as the fact, that there was no evidence presented, that would support the possibility that any theft of profile information was ever achieved."

The Post regrets the erroneous headline in the earlier story.

Monarch of Ferguson to take Foreign Tour.

Transgendered Fergusian monarch Benjamin I/Benelea I (Bennie Lee Ferguson) will tour Israel and the Netherlands between November 2-17 accompanied by Queen Mother Alberta.

Ferguson expects to visit either the West Bank or Gaza as part of a fact-finding mission in connection with his/her independent write-in U.S. presidential campaign. As head of the Fergusian state, the monarch intends to visit the micro-nation of Akhzivland, located near the Israeli city of Nahariya, and hopefully meet with President Eli Avivi.

The Fergusian monarch will be in Amsterdam between November 11-17, a city in which he/she resided from 1979-1986.

IMPERIUM WITHDRAWS FROM UNAM

-- Imperial News Service

Maturity, as well as security, was an alternate reason to temporarily
suspend the Imperium's participation on the Floors of the Forum of the
UNAM; as it has come to the Imperial Government's attention, that there
could "possibly" be some concerns from other UNAM members, as to the
sincerity and dedication of some who are members, or who may be in the
process of seeking membership into the micro-organization.

The Imperial Government shall wait for an Official Response from the
UNAM Commission, prior to complete and absolute withdrawal from the
organization; however, if a logical, plausible, reasonable, believable
explanation is not forthcoming within a business-week, then the Imperial
Government will have no choice, but sever Her relations with UNAM.

Body of fallen soldier returns to Canada

MARIA BABBAGE - Canadian Press

TRENTON, Ont. — Benoit Longtin wasn't standing with his grief-stricken family when the remains of his brother, slain Quebec soldier Pte. Simon Longtin, arrived from Afghanistan on Wednesday.

Instead, he was among the eight uniformed men who carefully hoisted the flag-draped casket on their shoulders and carried it towards a waiting hearse.

As the mourners approached the car, a visibly upset Benoit — who recently completed basic training — joined his father at the head of the group, gripping his hand tightly as the tears were finally allowed to fall.

Some of Canada's top civilian and military leaders joined Pte. Longtin's family and loved ones to receive the remains of the young soldier, whose death was the first in Afghanistan for his Quebec-based regiment — a province where support is low the Canadian mission.

Gov. Gen. Michaelle Jean, newly minted Defence Minister Peter MacKay, Chief of Defence Staff General Rick Hillier and former chief of defence staff, retired general Maurice Baril, were among the many dignitaries who stood alongside Pte. Longtin's family as the body of the 23-year-old member of the Royal 22nd Regiment — known as the Vandoos — arrived at this eastern Ontario military base.

At one point during the repatriation ceremony, Jean put her arm around one of the mourners, offering some comfort as the woman, clad in black, wiped away tears.

The group, which included Pte. Longtin's father, Maurice Longtin, his mother, Johanne Larente, and his girlfriend, Debbie Duclos-Bedard, watched tearfully as the casket was carried across the wind-swept tarmac.

Pallbearers stepping slowly to the mournful notes of “Amazing Grace.” Pte. Longtin's stepmother, Manon Daoust, as well as his aunt, uncle and several cousins were also in attendance.

Family members carrying red or white roses gently laid the blooms on top of the casket, some wiping away tears before walking away. His head bent forward and arm outstretched towards his dead son, Maurice Longtin said his silent goodbyes then backed away slowly, sorrow etched across his face.

Pte. Longtin, from Longueil, Que., died Sunday after his light-armoured vehicle was hit by a roadside bomb. More than 1,000 soldiers from 37 countries paid tribute to Pte. Longtin at a ramp ceremony in Kandahar Airfield on Monday.

On Wednesday, dozens of Canadian soldiers, who military officials said were bound for CFB Gagetown and travelled on the same military aircraft that carried Pte. Longtin's remains, poured out of the plane and stood in formation as the casket was lowered to the ground.

Dozens more onlookers, including a number of bikers, gathered outside the razor-wire fence, carrying flags and standing in solemn tribute to the fallen soldier.

Pte. Longtin's family maintained their request for privacy Wednesday, asking that journalists refrain from taking close-up photos of grieving family members. However in a recent statement, they echoed the comments of Pte. Longtin's fellow Vandoos, painting a picture a soldier who embraced military life and his mission in Afghanistan.

Some of Pte. Longtin's fellow soldiers in the Vandoos 3rd Battalion have appealed to Quebecers to be “better informed” about the objectives of the mission before passing judgment, adding that they believe in it and want to carry on the work.

Canada has about 2,300 troops in the war-torn country as part of the NATO force supporting the Afghan government, of which about 1,100 are from Quebec's Royal 22nd Regiment.

Sixty-seven Canadian soldiers and a diplomat have died in Afghanistan since 2002, including some from Quebec.

Cesidian Root Declares 'Independent Long Island'

South Floral Park, NY, August 20, 2007 -- The President and Founder of the Cesidian Root, an alternative and intercontinental Internet, announced today that he has started the new country project of Independent Long Island (ILI).

Independent Long Island (ILI) is the new name the President of the Cesidian Root has given to Long Island, and this new national entity is made up of the Brooklyn and Queens boroughs of New York City, as well as the Nassau and Suffolk counties, that is, the full geographical island of Long Island. The Cesidian Root has started a .ILI Top-Level Domain, and the ILI acronym stands for Independent Long Island.

Independent Long Island doesn't just have its own .ILI TLD now, but actually a full intercontinental Internet, and the President of the Cesidian Root thinks the time is quite ripe not for a Boston Tea Party, but perhaps it is for a Brooklyn T... LD Party!

Dominion Tie-Line restored.

The Dominion of British West FLorida's Tie-Line to the rest of the world, which is routed through East Florida, has been restored.

Service was restored earlier than expected due to the dedication and skill of the technicians provided by the service provider.

The operator of the commercial transport has covered all associated direct costs, and the Dominion of British West Florida will be reimbursed for the lost connectivity time.

DBWF Internet Tie-Line Severed - Web Sites Unavailable

The Dominion of British West Florida's tie-line to the outside world was severed yesterday (Sunday). The Official incident report lists the incident as 'Accident'.

A 'Commercial Transport' operating in the area where the tie line crosses into East Florida was apparently operating outside of the 'center of the channel' and became entangled in the cable, severing it 'by accident'.

The operator of the transport vessel has agreed to fund the repairs to the tie-line.

The Dominion's Marquess of Mobile and the commercial internet service provider responsible for the tie-line's operation have determined that no foreign power was involved in the event. The internet service provider has also informed the government of the Dominion of British West Florida through it's Office of the Register of Florida (an office like a 'clerk of the court') that no fees will be applied to the account for the two days involved in the outage.

Service should be restored by Monday evening.

No Critical Systems were impacted, as the Dominion has triple-redundant access lines for emergency services, leaving two still in operations.

The Post will continue to operate, though some news may be slow to be published.

Scotland lose to India in one-day international cricket match

From Wikinews,
August 16, 2007

India have beaten Scotland by seven wickets in a One-Day International at Titwood, Glasgow, Scotland.

Scotland were reduced to 49-4 after losing the opening batsmen cheaply followed by the loss of Watson and Haq in quick succession. However a rain delay shortened the Scotland innings to 46 overs. Scottish batsmen Gavin Hamilton and Neil McCallum shared a partnership of 82 runs and Craig Wright hit 37 off 34 balls to help Scotland to 203-9 after 46 overs.

India comfortably reached the revised Duckworth-Lewis target of 209 runs from 46 overs despite some good initial fielding from Scotland and the loss of three wickets. Robin Uthappa scored a half century while Gautam Gambhir scored 85 runs. India won the match by seven wickets with 37 balls to spare.

India will play a seven-match tour of England later this month, having already won the Test series earlier this week.

An associate member of the ICC, Scotland missed a chance to play against a full member country in July when a match against Pakistan was abandoned due to rain.

The first launch showed that the rocket is indeed very stable in normal wind conditions and reached 700ft high, but the parachute deployment system was flawed.

The parachute support rigging was half destroyed when it was deployed due to weak string materials. These materials have been upgraded to Kevlar cord which will not burn or snap under the deployment pressures.

The second launch was done (without notice) in a higher wind condition. This was a mistake but ended up a good thing. The rocket did indeed function properly in the high wind and the parachute system worked flawlessly that time.

This positive outcome now initiates stage two of the Rocket assisted video recon unit program which is the construction of the full sized rocket.

The test rocket was 2 and half feet in length, the full scale version is approx. four feet in length and can reach altitudes of 2100ft.

India wraps up Test cricket series win in England.

-- From Wikinews
August 13, 2007

India have drawn the third Test cricket match against England at The Oval, London, England. The draw means that India win the Test series in England 1-0.

This is India's first series win in England since 1986 and England's first home series loss since 2001.

In the first Test at Lord's, England started off the match with a first innings of 298, then bowling India out for 201. England then followed that up with a score of 282. India then worked their way to 282/9 before the weather turned for the worse and rain came to their rescue and ended the first test as a draw.

The second Test proved a better one for India where the left-arm seamers dominated. After England had been shot out for 198, India took the advantage by starting their innings with a 147 run opening partnership, and India didn't look back. They ended their innings with a score of 481. There could have been centuries had it not been for two horrible umpiring decisions which left Tendulkar on 91 after being wrongly adjudged lbw and Sourav Ganguly was left on 79 after missing a ball going down the leg-side but which the umpire thought he nicked. After England had been bowled out for 355, India went in for the kill and won the Test. There were also several behavioral problems, including Sreesanth's shoulder barge into Michael Vaughan which cost Sreesanth half of his match fee and the jelly bean scandal in which the England players allegedly put jelly beans on the pitch to distract Zaheer Khan. This would prove costly however, as Zaheer Khan got fired up and then went on to take 9 wickets in the match.

The third Test proved to be a closer game. Having won the toss and chosen to bat, India racked up a massive 664 in their first innings which included eight half-century partnerships, a first in Tests, and Anil Kumble's maiden Test century. England were then bowled out for 345, well short of the total needed to avoid a possible follow-on, with Ian Bell top scoring with 63. Paul Collingwood and Alastair Cook followed with 62 and 61 respectively.

India though, did not enforce the follow-on and opted to bat again. India stuttered to 11/3, losing both opening batsmen within the first four overs, followed by the wicket of Sachin Tendulkar for just one run. Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid however steadied the innings. Ganguly had the highest score of the innings with 57 while Dravid was uncharacteristically slow and scored 12 runs off 96 balls.

India declared on 180/6, setting England a massive target of 500 runs. England then batted out the remaining 110 overs of the match to score 369/6, including a century from Kevin Pietersen, ending the match as a draw.

A seven-match One-Day International series will be played between the two countries following the Test series, with the first to take place at the Rose Bowl, Hampshire on 21st August.

Lively Debate on the future of the office of Governor-General

-- Virtual Pensacola

The moves within the Houses of Parliament to amend the Constitution and change the succession to the Office of Governor-General have recently taken a decidedly more “Monarchical Tone”.

The suggestion by the Solicitor-General (Guy Drury) that the constitution of the Dominion of British West Florida needed revision to address our current 'difficulties' has been meet in the House of Lords with several proposed amendments.

The Lord Rum's Original proposal, calling for an election of the Governor-General from the sitting Lords Temporal by the House of Lords, to a six year term, after review by the Privy Council was presented to the House of Lords and the House of Commons, with the blessings of the Privy Council, and the Marquess of Mobile and seemed assured of passage.

However, the Speaker of the House of Commons, Alan Goudman, PC raised the issue of 'creeping republicanism' and the 'presidential Governor-General'. The Marquess, on seeing the Councillor's objections in the House of Lords Debate contacted His Grace the Duke of Florida (who had elevated the current acting Governor-General to his post as a consequence of his elevation to the Marquessate).

His Grace, the Duke of Florida has now offered his own version of an amendment, which retains much of the Lord Rum's provisions, but would allow a retiring Governor-General to name his own successor (pending ratification by the House of Lords), and would permit an 'elected Governor-General' to serve until dismissed, retired, or his death.

The matter is considered of such significance that the Marquess of Mobile has taken the unusual step of publicly soliciting the Subjects of Her Majesty the Queen of Florida to contact their Members of Parliament to help them understand the will of the people on this issue.

The latest revision apparently has the support of the Commons, and of the Lords as a whole.

A majority of the Earls support is specifically required to pass changes to the constitution, and as of yet none of them have spoken on the latest revisions.

Statement on the recent broadcast by Russian State Controlled Television.

-- Virtual Pensacola

The Dominion of British West Florida condemns the Russian Government's recent actions in support of its dubious claims to the Arctic Seabed. Rossiya is one of two state-controlled channels in Russia that have been turned into propaganda tools under President Vladimir Putin. This is the second time in less than two weeks that Vesti has faked a broadcast. While it is accepted that state controlled media will present the facts in the light most favourable to the government, it is not acceptable that a government would knowingly and willfully lie to its own people, and the world.

The TV fiasco will add fresh controversy to the expedition, which caused scorn and resentment among other northern hemisphere nations bent on getting their share of the Arctic's energy riches. The Russian claims beyond the 200 mile limit were dubious in the view of this government, before the Russians felt compelled to resort to lies. The clear intent of the latest lie is to strengthen Russia's claims to the resources of the Arctic seabed. Such actions have had the opposite affect in the Dominion of British West Florida – we will consider ALL Russian claims in light of the willingness of the Russian government to lie. The Russian claims to the Arctic seabed beyond the 200 mile limit are considered by the Dominion of British West Florida to be null and void.

We call upon the Russian government to refrain for further lies, to retract its claims to the Arctic seabed beyond the 200 mile limit, and to work with the international community to restore the trust among governments that is essential to the peaceful resolution of issues.

PARKISTAN PROPER: AN IMPERIAL PROTECTORATE

-- Imperial News Service

[ MICRONATIONAL CIVIL WAR DIVERTED ]

It is Official.......the three Leaders of Parkistan were able to reach a unanimous agreement to surrender partial control of Parkistan over to the Imperial Commonwealth; thereby avoiding an all-out Micronational Civil War between the three former friends turned feuding factions.

The two major recent events which shook Parkistan, the "Remove & Replace Offensive Operation" initiated by the two Leaders of Getzland and Juban, and then the reprisal act of seizure and destruction of the Parkistani Govt Official Web-Site by the Leader of Wentzland, seemed to have set the stage for a possible Micronational Civil War; however, after several lengthy Tele-Summits [ Tele-Conferences ] between Lord Imperator and the three Leaders [ collective and private ], all three Leaders were able to come to a mutual understanding of the benefits of assimilation / incorporation into the Imperial Commonwealth.

The issue of the Parkistani Protectorates [ Parks and Parts-of-Parks / US: MO & ILL ], which had remained of primary concern for the Lord Imperator, were resolved; with the claims and overseership of said claims to remain the sole responsibility of the three Leaders, thereby leaving the Imperium free of any association with, or protection of, said lands.

In return for mandated limited surrender of each of their authorities, and the swearing of allegiance to the Imperial Family and Government, which such an alliance of allegiance understood to be an irrevocable / irreversible act, resulting in a partial, though permanent, control of the Imperium over Parkistan, the assimilation / incorporation of Parkistan Proper into the Imperial Commonwealth was finally and officially consummated; thereby, the Imperium agreed to several requests and concessions which included, but are not limited to, the following:

[1] Training of a Parkistani PaintBall [ "PainBall" ] Force [ at Parkistani expenses / 3M: Meals, Milage, and Motel ]

[2] Inclusion of Parkitani PaintBall Forces in future War Game Exercises [ at Parkistani expenses ]

[3] Hunting and Fishing Rights on Imperial Soils [ with prior approval of seasonal schedules / at Parkistani expenses ]

[4] Invitation and Inclusion of Parkistani People in Imperial Events [ DeWaCo Rodeo, Octoberfest, etc...at Parkistani Expenses ]

[5] Use of Imperial Symbols with prior approval ___________________________________________________
