Governor-General issues statement on the Moitree Express rail service

-- Virtual Pensacola, Governor-General's Press Releases

The People and Government of the Dominion of British West Florida join with the Peoples and Governments of India and Bangladesh in celebrating the restoration of direct passenger train service between the two countries this past Sunday.

The test run was the first full journey for the Moitree (Friendship) Express, and signals a return to fast, affordable, and reliable transportation across the border for the people of both nations. The link was suspended following the war between India and Pakistan more than four decades ago. The service, broken by war, has now, finally been restored in peace.

We hope that this symbolic restoration of connections - represented by the rails of iron - will be matched by a return to the harmony of respect for each other and the rule of law once shared by these two former members of the British Empire and Commonwealth of Nations.
